Welcome back to what I know will be a very exciting and memorable year in Grade 5 and 6 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School! For those of you that I haven't yet had the pleasure of meeting, my name is Kara Dean. I have been teaching with the Ottawa Catholic School Board since 2006. I spent 13 years at St. John the Apostle. During my time there, I taught some primary classes but I spent most of my time at SJA teaching grade 5 and 6. I transitioned to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in 2019. I am really enjoying working with the SEAS community and getting to know your children. For the current school year, I will be teaching your child either Grade 6 Math or Grade 5 Math and Language.
A little bit about me....I love teaching grade 4, 5 & 6! My favourite subject to teach is MATH!!! Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my husband Jeff and our son, Owen. We enjoy spending time outdoors exploring, weekends at the family cottage, biking, skating, taking pictures and cooking! Owen keeps us busy learning and exploring new things with him everyday! Family is a huge part of my life, I love to spend time with my parents, sisters, nieces/nephews and friends as much as I can. I am an avid scrapbooker! I enjoy playing board games, reading and I love solving brain challenging puzzles and Sudoku! I also really love to find neat and crafty ways to decorate and organize things, a bit of a habit that the kids will come to know all about!
I will be using this website to post all relevant information regarding our class. The goal is to keep parents and students informed and up to date on what is happening in our classroom and at school in Grade 5 & 6. Please check this site for explanations of what we are currently learning in math and language, class announcements, important dates, quiz and test reviews as well as other useful links, and of course any other useful tips and suggestions that may help at home. I thank you in advance for your patience with the website as I will try to be as timely as I can.
Please note, I will not be posting the children's work on here each day, please look for that on Hapara. I feel that using their agenda is an important part of learning to be a responsible student and learning to track homework and assignment due dates. Please make sure you are checking their agenda every night for homework and other handouts from the school that are not offered online.
I am thrilled that your son or daughter is in my classroom and I look forward to meeting and working with your family this school year. I believe that open communication between home and school is very important. Please feel free to contact me at school 613-825-3596, should you need to speak with me at any point throughout this year with any questions or concerns.
It is very important for the children and I to work together as a classroom family. We will be spending a lot of time together so we must treat each other with kindness, respect, and compassion. My job is to help your child grow as an independent learner and as a person of good character. I look forward to our adventures throughout this year, no doubt we will have a lot of fun!
